If you have moderately decent soldering skills and can follow directions, there's no reason you can't build your own guitar effects pedals! It's not hard, and it's a lot of fun. And when you're finished, you have the satisfaction of having built the pedal yourself. A great place to get started (I did!) is at BuildYourOwnClone.com. Keith Vonderhulls' kits are first-class quality and his directions are clear and easy to follow. The site also has a user's forum full of knowledgeable, helpful DIY pedal builders. Give it a try!!!
Another excellent source is General Guitar Gadgets. This site offers several full kits, a good selection of effects PCB's, and some great project documentation (schematics, bills of materials, and detailed build directions). Another great DIY pedal site to bookmark!!
