Fret.net Forum Community 2008 Holiday Raffle Page

Welcome to the Fret.net Forum Community 2008 Holiday Raffle page! This is a private raffle being held for the entertainment of established members of the Fret.net Forums. It is a strictly NON-PROFIT EVENT, with 25% of the proceeds going to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the remainder being distributed as prizes. The raffle is not affiliated with the forum itself, but grew from an excellent idea by long-time forum member "tot-Ou-tard". Thanks, Tot!

RAFFLE RULES

  1. Entry Fee & Payment: Entry fee is $20 for a single chance at the prize (or prizes--see below). $5 of that fee will go into a lump sum donation from The Fret to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The remaining $15 will go in a pot for a lucky Fretter (or Fretters) to win.

The $20 entry fee must be sent to duhvoodooman (DVM) by Friday, Jan. 9 2009 to be eligible. Acceptable methods are PayPal (preferred) or postal money order. The web page with the PayPal and mailing addresses is HERE. If using PayPal, please submit your payment in the amount of $20.91--this will equate to exactly $20 net after PayPal takes out their service fee. And please remember to INCLUDE YOUR FRET NET NAME in the comment text of your payment, 'cuz otherwise, I'll have no freakin' clue who most of you guys are!

  2. Eligibility rules: Only one entry per Fretter. Entrant must have joined The Fret prior to Dec. 1, 2008 and have at least 100 forum posts by time of payment of entry fee. DVM will post the names of the Fretters that he has received entry fees from at the bottom of this page. No pay, no name--intentions are great, but cash is king! If your name isn't on that list on Jan. 10, 2009, you are not eligible to win. Please contact DVM if your name isn't on the list, but you believe that it should be.

  3. Prizes: If 40 or fewer Fretters participate, then there will be one winner, who will receive all the money in the pot. If there are more than 40 participants, the kitty will be broken into one Grand prize of cash and second prize of a genuine made-to-order DVM effect pedal (there will be several to choose from). If we have 45 or more entrants, a second DVM pedal consolation prize will be given. Above 45 entrants, the additional entry fees will go into the cash pot. The prize breakdown will be announced prior to the drawing.

  4. Prize rules: Only one prize can be won by an entrant. The cash winner must spend the winnings on gear. The term "gear" refers to guitars, basses, amps, cabs, speakers, pedals, effects, recording tools, etc. You know gear when you see it. Or hear it. The cash winner has until March 11, 2009 to spend all of the winnings. Failure to comply with these prize rules will result in Warren coming to your house and making pancakes. And if you're a Fret.net regular, you know what that means. E-e-w-w-w-w!!

  5. Determination of Winner(s): On Saturday Jan. 10, 2009, DVM will provide the final entrant list to Algonquin, who use whatever method he deems reasonable to assign a number from 1 to the total number of participants to each raffle entrant. He will email a copy of this list to SuperSwede & only to him.

On Sunday Jan. 11, 2009, Spudman will use a known random number generator on the net to choose a number from 1 to the number of entrants. The winner will be the entrant with the matching number from Algonquin's list. If there are additional prizes, then additional winning numbers will be selected in the same manner.

On that same day, Spudman will notify Algonquin & SuperSwede of the winning number(s), and they will independently provide him with the name(s) of the entrant(s) matching those numbers. Assuming that their replies to Spudman both agree, he will verify the winner(s) and notify DVM, who will post the name(s) at the bottom of this page.

The fact that none of these three Fretter's (Algonquin, SuperSwede and Spudman) are raffle entrants will avoid any potential conflcict of interest with them being involved in the selection of the winner. THANKS, GUYS!!!

  6. Payout: The cash prize will be paid out by DVM by Friday, Jan 16 2009. Exact method of payout will be mutually determined by the cash winner & DVM (check, money order, etc.). If there are pedal consolation prizes, the winner(s) will select from a list of eligible models and the pedal(s) will be built to order. Please allow 4 weeks to receive your pedal.

  7. The above rules are subject to change, but any changes will be clearly communicated on this page and dissenting entrants may opt to have their entry fee returned, if they so wish.
RAFFLE ETIQUETTE

Not rules, per se, but we hope that you'll follow these guidelines: Let the games begin....

Last Updated: 1/11/09

Final # of Participants: 17

Grand Prize: $255

Final list of raffle entrants:

sunvalleylaw
evenkeel
warren0728

Tibernius
Bigoldron
marnold
just strum
Robert
duhvoodooman
oldguy
Dreadman
peachhead

And our winner is......

Robert Renman ("Robert")

A bit about the selection process:

Algonquin took the list of 17 names and applied the following method to number them:

"To assign numbers, I sorted the Fretters into alphabetical order. I then assigned #1 to the first Fretters name, then assigned #2 to the last Fretters name on the list. Then I proceeded to assign the remaining numbers alternating alphabetically with the remaining Fretters until all 17 participants had been assigned a number. I told nobody of my method of numbering, and it provided as random a list as I could come up with."

Applying this method gave the following numbered list:

  1. Bigoldron
  2. warren0728
  3. Blazes
  4. tot_Ou_tard
  5. Dreadman
  6. tjcurtin1
  7. duhvoodooman
  8. Tibernius
  9. evenkeel
  10. sunvalleylaw
  11. Gil_Janus
  12. Robert
  13. just strum
  14. peachhead
  15. M29
  16. oldguy
  17. marnold

Algonquin then provided a copy of this numbered list to SuperSwede and NOBODY ELSE.

Spudman then used a well-known random number generator at Random.org to randomly select an integer between 1 and 17. The result was 12, as shown in this screenshot (click on the image to see a larger version). And #12 was Mr. Renman!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR PLAYING!!!
